Philip Hunt: A Healthy Future, Post-retirement

Untitled design 13

Listen to Philip talk about his coaching experience.

Context:

Neurodiversity, Retirement, Wellbeing

Description:

Philip was approaching retirement from academia and wanted to make the transition a positive one. He also realised that being ten stone overweight was damaging his physical and mental health. As someone living with Asperger’s Syndrome, he rightly expected an understanding of his way of thinking and behaving.

We worked together in a way that capitalised on his strengths of a very logical mind and a highly focused personality, matching this to activities to reach his weight-loss goal in six months.

Alongside this, coaching focused on giving the support to research opportunities and open Philip’s mind to the full extent of opportunities open to him, including a far fuller social life. At first, this seemed self-indulgent to Philip as he had been conditioned to equate his own value with work. The loss of routine was a very big deal to him as someone with Asperger’s, so we worked on changing his mindset using NLP.

Outcome:

Philip lost an astounding ten stone on my coaching programme, using healthy weight-loss as a project. By understanding Philip’s way of thinking and priorities, we also engineered a route into meaningful post-retirement work that includes being a McGowan trainer and on a Police Advisory Board.

Listen to David talk about his coaching experience.

Context:

Career reappraisal, Dealing with Major Life Transition, Wellbeing

Description:

David is a professional architect with a successful practice. He had been considering his options as he approached retirement and wanted to consolidate his portfolio of services. He wanted consultancy support delivered in a down to earth way Dealing in a positive way with a number of issues was the main aim.

Coaching helped David compartmentalise issues so that they did not overwhelm him. At the same, time he drew from a recent experience to remind him of how important it is to make the most of every moment. We worked together to restructure David’s life so that it focused more on quality of experiences and especially his interest in creativity and video-making. This didn’t mean stopping working, which remains an important part of David’s life.

Upgrading one’s quality of life can be a very formative process in middle-age as so many people have forgotten what they really enjoy! Fortunately, we were able to home in on David’s razor-sharp wit as a source of inspiration.

Outcome:

David found a new talent in online video and repartit! He also continues to manage his business. The main change however has been his attitude to life and self-development; he now ‘owns’ his future and his happiness and is living life to the max.
